Walk This Way
If you are visiting Manila and would like to spend quality time walking with your family, friends, lovers and what not, here's a good way to do it, while learn something about the Philippines, without worries of getting mug.
Walk with Carlos Celdran, [that's not him on the picture tho he likes to dress up for the tour to make it more appealing and convincing], and he will give you a very informative rundown of Philippine history. It's been his passion to educate tourists and locals alike about the early history of Intramuros, Fort Santiago, San Agustin Church etc. thru his very popular "If these walls could talk" walking tour.
Want to go down trip memory lane of the tumultous 70's era of Martial Law? He's got a tour perfect for you, to re-live with "livin la vida Imelda".
Another tour to consider is the overnight trip to Corregidor Island, visits historic sites, nature-tripping, and even ghost-hunting, if you believe in such a thing.
I don't really know him, only thru his website, but I am beginning to admire his dedication and passion to get the words out there that Manila is more than just a noisy, polluted, crime-infested, image of poverty city.
We seem to have the same convictions now, the only difference being he's so good of story-telling, with matching music background, costumes, enthusiasm and has a lot more knowledge, i mean a lot than yours truly. Back in the days, I hated History so much that I almost failed them in both high school and college. In his own words, he is not trying to change Manila but instead trying to change the way you look at Manila...one step at a time!
