Last Dance
How many weeks did we practice our main dance for the "JS Prom"?How many times Mr. Ed V shouted at the top of his lung while clapping his hands and angrily stomping his feet?
And how much our skin turned darker due to the continuous practices under the heat of the morning and late afternoon sun?
Lumutong ang tenga ko!
We were the juniors and the “bagong tao” (neophytes), as they called.
I remember how we were paired with the girls of the senior class. It’s not “pick your choice” but “find your same height”. I remember also how my partner (Emy Samson) got angry with me many times, not because I am bad-looking but because I am very “touchy”. I kept poking on her waist whenever I hold onto her...nangi-nginig talaga!
Simply because, that was the first time I touched a part of a woman’s body. I was so worried also that I will accidentally step on her toes.
Taga-bukid kasi at malapad ang paa...
I was just barely staying alive...It really took me some time before I made myself comfortable.
But lo & behold came Prom night...we finished it nicely! However, a few dance with somebody and it’s over. The thrill was gone!
I remember one song that night, My Fair Share. The artist, I forgot!
Para sa akin, it’s just like that....walang thrill!
Maybe because I did’t have the eyes for the senior girls or sa batch mates natin. It’s not because walang magaganda sa mga ka-batch. Marami! It’s just I treated them as my sisters.
Though I did the waltz that night, my mind was flying somewhere in the future...
...the next years’ prom.
Nasa 3rd year kasi ang aking taling-suyo, si MDR. Excited ako for the next prom, which, unfortunately never came. We never had that chance to have the "JS Prom" with the next batch. I did'nt know the reason why so much so that I was totally disappointed. Sayang!
But from there, I’ve learned a lesson. Live only for today as you don’t know what tomorrow might bring. Worst, tomorrow might not come at all!...
Well...this coming reunion, I might get a chance once more and it could be my last dance for all I know...
...co'z i'm really getting too old for this. ;-)

Pareng Rene, wag mo naman sabihin na last dance mo na un, kasi ako kahit parehong kaliwa ang paa ko, if its called for to dance, madederecho na din un, hehehe.
Basta ako kahit na anong dance sasayawin pero sa isang kondisyon. Kailangan madilim saka dun lang ako sa isang sulok na walang makakakita, hahaha.
Tama ka dun sa 'find your own height' sa j.s. prom natin. At siempre alam nyo na kung sino ang top billing, este, nasa unahan ng linya, siempre ako dahil 'six footer yata ako noong high school tayo. And that goes with the size of my....... feet, hehehe.
Ei, kung waltz din lang ang sasayawin, di naman tayo mapapahiya sa kanila. Thanks to Mr. Villarante natuto akong mag waltz. As far as ballroom dancing is concern, well, I'll 'dance' alright with the 'ball' in the 'room' while playing basketball, hahaha.
Keep smiling gals and guys! Our grand reunion is coming soon, yehey!!!

that tender age of innocense, early puberty - mix that with 'seniors-juniors prom', that my friend is an intro to a wonderfull passage to experimental , adventorous relationship. we've all been there,experienced & enjoyed it.

Hindi pa iyon ang magiging last dance mo. May kasunod pa ito! 'di ba mga classmates? After how many years kaya mauulit?

egay promised to learn ballroom dancing and so did noel. when i go home i will teach the ladies the same. so, rene, and the rest, that won't be your last dance for sure.
